Thumbs Up/Down

Thumbs up to…the NDP private member’s bill aims to cut the red tape and pave the way for Canadians with disabilities to be eligible for the Canada Disability Benefit, as well as other supports. If passed the bill will allow for automatic qualification for the federal Disability Tax Credit (DTC) for anyone already eligible, at the provincial level, for a disability tax credit, pension or benefit.

Thumbs up to…Coldplay for beating their tour’s carbon emissions by 59% during the first two years. Their eco-friendly “Music of the Spheres” world tour used a dance floor that generated electricity when danced on it, powered shows with exercise bikes, installed solar panels, reduced air travel and planted a tree for every ticket sold.

Thumbs down to…Taylor Swifts Eras Tour for its substantial carbon footprint. In February 2024 alone, Swift use of her private jet to attend 11 shows resulted in a whopping 393 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions, not include the actual show emissions or the fans’ travelling emissions. The average person in the US emits about 14 tonnes of CO2 annually.
