Community Care Northumberland

A Northumberland based organization that offers support for nutrition
(i.e., Meals on Wheels), transportation around the County, In-home services, and wellness services – including physical wellness and community events for mental wellness. They also offer a wraparound program that can assist older adults with Housing, Safety, Financial, Spiritual, Health, Family, Social, Recreation, Culture/Values, Mobility & Legal aspects of life and hospice services which involves the operation of Ed’s House.

YMCA Northumberland

The YMCA Northumberland has offerings that include fitness and aquatics classes to help support communities in living a healthy active life. Particularly they aim to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. Their offerings include discounted rates of seniors 55+.

Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton:

Under the umbrella of the Alzheimer’s Societies of Canada & Ontario the Alzheimer’s Society offers supports specific to caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease & dementia. While their offices are located in Peterborough they have a number of localized services for Northumberland County residents. From monthly Care Partner Support groups (in-person & virtually), education and webinars on a variety of topics (including basic info, advanced care planning, and at home activities) to support services for individual needs.

Canadian Mental Health Association of Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge

The local outlet of the Canadian Mental Health Association provides a number of different programs and services to help support the betterment of mental health and individuals with mental illnesses. Their services in Northumberland County include brief mental health services, family education support to caregivers and family members, learning centres and community housing for people with serious mental illness. Options for inclusive community recreation and physical activity in Northumberland that provide options for social engagement, interaction and stimulation.

The Cobourg Community Centre (CCC): 

The Cobourg Community Centre is a hub for those of all ages, offering public skating, community spaces, and a variety of other events. In particular they offer a Seniors Activity Centre for adults 55+. Located at the CCC, the activity centre has social activities such as a Book Clubs, Card Games, Camera Clubs, Quilting Club, Wood Carving social group and Carpet Bowling. They also offer fitness classes which include chair Zumba, active fit, cardio and core classes among others. That’s not all – they offer a variety of sports activities, and yoga programs and square-dancing and art programs to help enrich lives.

The Help & Legal Centre –
Senior’s Support Program:

The Help Centre’s Senior Support Program can assist you and those you care for in accessing community services relating to health, wellness and finances to improve your quality of life, and to help you remain self-sufficient. A Senior Support Worker can assist and support you with navigating the social service system, reviewing income and creating a monthly budget, attending medical appointments with you, and advocating with your doctors, completing all kinds of government forms, picking up and delivering documents during tax season, and other important documents, and much more.
