Staying connected is a great way to find out how they are doing which lets them know that you are thinking and caring about them. Sometimes those chats are full of laughter, but they can also help you deal with serious issues that need resolving.

Caregiver Helpline

As a caregiver, finding the right support can feel overwhelming. The Ontario a Caregiver Helpline is free, confidential service is available 24/7, offering information, referrals, and emotional support when you need it most. Staffed by Community Resource Specialists in English and French, with interpretation available in over 150 languages, the Helpline is a go-to resource for finding supports in your community.

2) Information & Resources: Get up-to-date details about caregiving programs, services, and financial assistance available in your area.

Time to renew your driver’s license?

Prior to your 80th birthday, you will likely receive a renewal form and a letter explaining the steps to renew. You can complete your renewal requirements at a ServiceOntario Centre. Once you turn 80 years-old, you will have to complete the following process every two years.

Fingernail health 

While they can be the subject of folk wisdom and misinformation, the condition of a person’s nails be an helpful indicator of other underlying conditions. Experts would have us know that human nails are an extension of the skin made from keratin, a super tough protein. The cuticle offers extra protection to stop bacteria, fungi and other pathogens in their tracks. The lunula the half-moon at the base of the nail serves as the growth centre. 
Things to watch for: 

• Clubbing – a sign of low blood oxygen levels.
• Luekonychia – white flecks- are likely a sign of nail trauma. 
• White discolouration – a sign of psoriasis or if fully white, a deficiency of protein in the bloodstream. 
• Blue nails – a lack of oxygen. 
• Dark lines – a sign of subungual melanoma. 
• Yellow discolouration – Fungal infection (usually in toe nails).

​Compassionate Care Benefits and EI

One of the most difficult times for anyone is when a loved one is dying or very ill. These demands can jeopardize your job and/or your financial security. Some companies will pay for your time away and the Federal Compassionate Care Benefits are Employment Insurance (EI) benefits paid to people who miss work to support a gravely ill family member who is gravely ill who has significant risk of death within 26 weeks (six months).

• Snuggle with a pet 
• Go for a leisurely stroll
• Take a short daytime nap
• Work in your garden or tend to your plants
• Sit outside and enjoy the sounds of nature
• Try playing a “brain game”
• A call to a good friend always works well.
