Time to move
The decluttering and packing tips that I found in Caregiver Solutions magazine a few issues ago were super helpful. In fact the whole magazine is very on target for the time of life I’m in caring for Dad. I’ve organized subscriptions for my brother and sister in law who are helping me out as well.
Thank you!

Editor’s Note: That’s such good news. Glad our magazines are helping you and yours. Please pass your issues on to others when you can.
Sharing meal
Thanks to one of the articles from your nutritionist guest writers, I’ve invited some of my senior friends to join me at a
dinner club twice a week. One day we all bring our own dinners and eat together in the common room of my condo. And, one other day, we take turns hosting a pot luck. It’s great for company and I find I choose more healthy options.

Editor’s Note: Eating together is said to be one of the best social activities—a great idea for others living in condos too.
Neighbourhood watch
I’m afraid to go out with the homeless population occupying parkets and store front alcoves in our town. I liked your last piece on finding a buddy, sharing drives and walking together. I’ve talked to the police and the mayor but nothing is being done so I have to find my own solutions.

Editor’s Note: Great idea. Safe than sorry as the saying goes. Having a buddy system is quite a sensible idea for other things too. Medical appointments, shopping, running errands, etc… it’s more fun too.

What to expect from an annual check-up
A physical exam—also called a medical—is a routine series of tests performed by a doctor or nurse to check overall health. Your body is examined by looking, feeling and listening.
The examination occurs in a doctor’s office, exam room in a clinic or at the hospital. Your health history and recent symptoms, discomforts, risk factors, or medical problems, as well as medications, will be reviewed and discussed. Also, past and current diseases, immunizations you have had, and your lifestyle habits will be reviewed as well as your body systems tailored to your age. This can include examining your skin and eyes, checking balance, reflexes, blood pressure, and your heart and lungs. A physical may also include other gender or age-related tests such as prostate or breast exams. And, there should be time for you or a caregiver to ask questions and raise any concerns. Findings are usually reviewed immediately. With recommendations for medication changes, lifestyle modifications or homecare services or alterations in living arrangements. To be on the safe side, further tests, labs and appointments may be required.
