Wise Advice

Tired and run down? Try this…

Could it be low iron? Anemia is caused by various factors, with iron deficiency being one of the most common. When your body lacks iron, it produces fewer and smaller red blood cells, leading to fatigue and weakness. Here are some things to consider:

1) Discuss symptoms with a health care professional who will likely recommend lab tests.

2) Take meds exactly how you are told to by your doctor. Seek hospitals or after-hours clinics if a problem occurs after hours.

3) If iron pill are prescribed take them with plenty of fluids as they can cause dehydration.

4) Orange juice or citrus fruit taken at the same time can help your body absorb iron.

5) Avoid dairy or antacid for up to 2 hours

6) Eat foods with a lot of iron. Like red meat, shellfish, poultry, and eggs, or beans, raisins, whole grain bread, and leafy green vegetables.

7) If you miss a pill do not double dose. It can cause iron toxicity.

8) Steam your vegetables. This is the best way to prepare them if you want to get as much iron
as possible.
